Relying on God

Travelling, not being at home where you know where everything is, not knowing the area you are staying in, not knowing the people, makes me feel more reliant on God.

Now I’m talking about me.

Maybe that’s you every day because of your circumstances, your situation. You rely on God for everything. I’m only truly starting to think and act like this.

Reflecting upon my life, I thought that I was surrendered to God. I thought that He was my number One in my Life. But I was still so focused on me. On my gifts and abilities. On my ability to get me out of tough situations. On my ability to keep everything afloat – family, finances, work, household chores…..

Then travelling for Ministry, living out of a suitcase, totally reliant upon God for meeting people, providing our daily needs, providing for our future I am beginning to hear His voice better, Know Him better, rely on Him better.

Yes, there were days when we knew what was planned but there were many we did not. We waited upon the Holy Spirit to guide us, nudge us in the right direction. We hopped on a plane, drove a hire car to visit people that we felt God put on our hearts to meet.

Some I still don’t know why the meeting. Was it not for us but to encourage the couple that were doing great Ministry to those who lived near them?

Only the Spirit knows and maybe one day will reveal to us why. But we both feel, Bruce and I, that we are like Paul going out to reach people. Having plans but then listening to what the Spirit may say?

In the Book of Acts, chapter 16, Paul was trying to go to Asia, but they were prevented somehow – no tickets on the boat? The weather stopped them? It does not say, other than – they were prevented by the Holy Spirit, but in verses 9-10 it states that Paul had a dream……

‘During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him.” Come over to Macedonia and help us.” After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.’

Acts 16:9-10

Well maybe that’s not you going out on a Mission Trip, He does not call everyone this way, but you can hear God talking to you, calling you in your everyday daily life if you have ears to hear and a heart that is open.

It is actually a very vulnerable, exciting, scary, wonderful place to be.

To rely on God. For everything. It brings you a freedom of mind and heart, and helps you know God better and more.

HE is Faithful. He will provide – maybe different to your expectations but always better.

Yes, He still uses the gifts and abilities He has given to you but with a different or better attitude of heart that brings you closer to God and makes you see your worth and your role in this world.

Where has God showed up and helped you in your Life?  Are you fully reliant on Him or are you still working on it like me?

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Thank you for sharing, Rosemary. I am thrilled you are in my very own state of Georgia and am learning, like you, to be fully dependent and rely wholeheartedly upon The Holy Spirit to lead me and to understand God’s ways are always so much better than my own. May the rest of your visit to America be fruitful and be a blessing…even in the detours. Peace be with you, Jill

‘To rely on God. For everything. It brings you a freedom of mind and heart, and helps you know God better and more.’

This is so very true. I am trying to instill this into my Grand childrens’ way of thinking and hope this stays with them. Thankyou Rosemary 🙏💜

Dear Rosemary, what an amazing faith filled life you two are leading. I can only watch on in awe.
Interesting when you said, that you thought you already had surrendered all to the Lord, then by recent experience realised there was more to let go.
I think that I will be a work in progress right up until the moment I take my last breath.
