I was on babysitting duties at a Park while Mum and Dad were in a meeting. The thing that is funny is I don’t have to do it but I enjoy choosing the role to love my grandchildren and to teach my grandchildren love.

I was pushing the youngest two on the swing, Mackenzie who is 3 and Emmett who is 2, while their big brother Freddie was climbing equipment. I started singing to them. (I’m famous for making up my own songs).

“Swinging high and swinging low it is the way to go. La la la la la, la la la la la. Mackenzie is so happy she is laughing out so loud. While Emmett is all smiles enjoying the swinging too”

I then continued to hum and make up other words to go with the tune about the sun shining and it was a beautiful day ……

Mackenzie stopped me and asked “Can you sing the one about me and Emmett again.”

I smiled with delight and so did they as I completed her request.

It reminded me of a true story I had read just the other day.

A Father had taken his three year old son to the hardware store with him. The little boy was delighted Dad had asked him but Dad after a few minutes was very frustrated. His son kept touching everything and was wandering off to look at things.

The Dad very patiently spoke to his son and then called his name and picked him up. As he was carrying him he started to tell him some stories about when his son was a baby, and a very little boy, smaller than he was now.

His son listened intently, stopped squirming and behaved so beautifully the rest of the time they were in the shop.

As his Father carried him back to the car, his little boy said ”Dad I  love coming out with you but I especially liked you talking about me. Can we do it again sometime soon?”

Just like Mackenzie asking for me to sing over her, about her again, we all at whatever age, like someone talking positively with fond memories about us.

Do you know God Our Father sings over us? He delights in us. We are HIS JOY. His precious children.

In Zephaniah 3:17

“The Lord your God is in your midst,

A Warrior who Saves,

He will rejoice over you with Joy,

He will be quiet in His Love (making no mention of your past sins)

He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy- with singing”

This is how much joy and delight we give to the Lord that He breaks into song!

And just how delighted I was that Emmett and Mackenzie enjoyed my singing over them, about them, so we too can give the Lord a gift and allow Him to be delighted that we enjoy Him singing over us.

This is reinforced in Psalm147:11

“But the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in His steadfast Love”

Oh that time with the little ones brought me joy.

When we spend time with Our Father in Heaven it brings Him great joy.

 STOP.

Let Him sing over you!

Songs of joy, songs of comfort, songs of delight, songs of forgiveness, songs of love, songs of hope……. I could go on ad infinitum. That’s what heaven will be like. Us worshiping our God and our God His Love fully visible and singing over us with this Love.

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Love

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Where do you need Our Father to sing over you?

Do you read the scriptures and read about what your Father, your Saviour says about you? Have you looked to see where the scriptures delight in you?
