Would You Like Sushi for Dinner?

“Mum, what are we having for dinner?” A question often asked in households with children.

“Homemade Sushi” was the reply.

“Oh, I don’t like sushi.”

“Well do you like rice and chicken and celery and carrot and avocado…..” “Oh yes, I like them!”

This dialogue was in our family chat. Later we all received a video of Willow, who is 4, putting rice, chicken and celery on a sushi seaweed sheet and rolling it up herself and then proceeding to eat it. It drew a smile across my face.

Later reflecting upon what Jesus had done for me, in my prayer, this story came back into my mind. It explained in a simple way something I had been contemplating.

The ingredients in Willow’s food were exactly the same as in a sushi roll that her Mum had made. Maybe constructed a bit differently but still the same. She liked what she ate but remember at the beginning was opposed to eating sushi. But when she made it her way, she knew all the ingredients in “her sushi.”

Jesus died for us on the Cross. I know myself and others have thought surely it could have been done another way. An easier way. A less painful way. A way that brought the same results but did not harm anyone. Maybe done a different way like Willow making her sushi a different way.

All these thoughts were going through my mind and then the Holy Spirit whispered to me —we do not understand the magnitude of the separation that was between us and God.

God is the Almighty, All Powerful, Pure Being, Creator of Us and we are His creation. Original Sin separated us from God.

GOD DID NOT WANT THIS SEPARATION and so out of His infinite love for us He sent His Son.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9 NRSV

We could not see it, and most of us do not understand the extent of God’s love and the relationship He seeks to have with each of us. That the ONLY way to restore what was lost was to make retribution for Original Sin. That the Father had to send the Son to die, to replace us who deserved the punishment.

Pope St Leo the Great wrote:

”For Thy cross is the source of all blessings, cause of all the gifts of grace; through it to them that believe is given strength out of weakness, glory out of shame, life out of death.”

Pope St. Leo the Great, Doctor of the Church, 5th Century A.D

The conundrum of the Way of the Cross is that Jesus’ death brought us Life.

His Sacrifice has given us Eternal Hope, Eternal Salvation.

So let us be grateful and contemplate more on what HE has done for us. Put some time aside and let the Holy Spirit speak to us about Christ’s Love for us.

What would The Holy Spirit say to you?

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Love

I’ve been thinking lately why didn’t God destroy Lucifer, the Angel that fell, and his followers, instead of letting him go on to wreak havoc in the world and destroy lives.
Lucifer particularly goes after Christians it seems.
I’ve been in a battle with depression and insomnia for many years now and pray to God to help me, but no amount of studying the word and praying seem to be helping.
I really need deliverance from these things. I’ve had enormous amounts of prayers and made a lot of confessions.
I believe Jesus died for my sins and thinking of His suffering makes me cry.
    I need help right now

Thank you Rosemary for jottings concerning if we had ever thought could have God our Heavenly Father, have saved us any other way than having our Lord Jesus, His Beloved Son suffer terribly and die a ‘ shameful ‘ death on a cross. A few years back, I did think why? Then a thought came to me, that our God is the most loving, compassionate, merciful, forgiving God. There would be no joy in our Loving, Heavenly Father witnessing His Only Beloved Son die such a painful death. And to see so many of His chosen people, who He created in His image and likeness, who He sent His Son to save, would treat His Son so terribly, contributing openly to His death!!! After having these thoughts, I believe this way may have been the BEST AND ONLY WAY in order for sin and death to be conquered. For our Lord Jesus to rise from the dead and have His Disciples be living witnesses to His Resurrection and Ascension. All in order for us to believe, in their time and in ours many, many, many centuries later!!! May the Lord bless you Rosemary, and may He keep inspiring, challenging you to write such deep and meaningful spiritual blogs from our everyday lives!!!
