What Path Do You Walk?

As I was trudging through sand measuring a pathway, that at the moment is non-existent, laying out with rope the size of the path, my thoughts went to my steps. I was deliberately walking slowly, watching where I placed my feet on the uneven sand.

Every step brought me closer to my destination.

As I measured my steps my mind was thinking – Do I think of where I am walking everyday? Or do I just walk with no thought of where my feet are taking me? Where my life is taking me?

Do I even consider if I am on the Right path, walking in the right direction for my life?

For there is a path for me, just for me, that was designated before time began. Have I found that Path? That path, when I find it, will provide the most meaning and fulfilment for it will be what God created me to walk on.

The path that is important and necessary for our lives refers to the way we live and what we decide to do with our limited time on earth.

Do I meditate and think about MY PATH? Who am I following? The latest TikTok? YouTube video? An influencer on Facebook?

 Or is it Jesus Christ? Am I following His Way?

As described throughout scripture:

My feet have closely followed his steps;
    I have kept to his way without turning aside.

Job 23:11 NIV

I am the way, and the truth, and the life.

John 14:6 NRSV

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.

Matthew 7:13 NIV

And one we often hear

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight

Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

For the Lord does what this Psalm states:

You make known to me the path of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,
    with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Psalm 16:11 NIV

So, our job is to continue to reflect, to examine our lives on an ongoing basis, for it does not take much for us to stray from the Path that God has for us. Temptation, envy of what others have, ‘MY way or the highway,’ it’s all about ME attitude, comes our way so often to derail us.

Have you watched where you are placing your feet, your headspace, your heart?

Take care for the enemy is wily – like a prowling, devouring lion ready to pounce.

Be self-controlled and vigilant always, for your enemy the devil is always about, prowling like a lion roaring for its prey.

1 Peter 5:8 (Phillips)

So don’t walk without thinking. Think, plan. Trust in the Lord and then walk.

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Every week groups of ladies meet together to chat about the things I raise in my weekly blog post and to chat about life in general. We call these ‘Heart Connect’ groups. If you would like more information please click HERE.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Think about where your life is taking you right now. Are you walking in the direction you believe God wants you to walk? What direction is this?

If you feel you should be going another way what can you do to change direction?

How often do you sit back to reflect on where you are headed in life?

    Reading your blog this morning made me realise how I have been “watching” my steps this past while.
    Recently I have been thinking about how easy it is to join in a conversation about someone and gossip and have made a concerted effort not to join in or begin such a conversation. It really does take effort. I am praying that the Holy Spirit guides me and stops me in my tracks.
    Thank you Rosemary may God bless you!!

      Hi Lynn,
      Yes it is so easy to fall into the gossip trap. I wonder if sitting silently, privately disagreeing with a group talking disparagingly of another is really complicit in a way.
      Personally, I have always felt most uncomfortable with these sort of conversations. None of us so perfect that we can set ourselves up to tear another being apart. Neither do we know what sort of predicaments they may be dealing with. It also makes you wonder what they are saying about you, when you aren’t there, not that that means much. Someone will think good or ill of you whether you are present or not. The path to redemption is full of traps and potholes, so easy to slip and stumble and fall, isn’t it. Thank you Rosemary, for the gems you post, which make us think and consider issues on a deeper level

    Thank you Rosemary so very true about checking whether we are on the right path. We need to stop & take stock as to whether we are following His steps or our own steps.
    May God Bless you, Bruce & the team abundantly. 🙏🌺

    Thank you Rosemary for the Food for thought. Being attentive to where and how we walk comes with discipline and I am working on it.
    Thank you Rosemary.
