God is There For You
I was feeling like I was getting on top of my emotions and my thoughts were getting clearer as to how I was going to cope with everything going forward health-wise.
Then I received an email from a friend who was feeling low and useless due to his health. Just after reading this, I listened to the first LENTEN Mission Message from The Catholic Guy, Bruce Downes Ministries.
Bruce mentioned that sometimes in life the storms that come our way are not judgements or punishment from God but a Divine Intervention. My spiritual ears pricked up. Could my health issues be God intervening in my life for a purpose?
Years ago, I had read about Saint Ignatius Loyola who had grown up to be a handsome young proud man. He only thought of himself and how the ladies would swoon over him in his soldier uniform. He was injured in battle by a cannonball which shattered a leg so he had to convalesce at his aunt’s house.
As it took him months to recover and being very bored lying in the library, he took it upon himself to start reading some of the books there. One in particular caught his eye – a book about the life of Jesus and the Saints.
This STORM (in the shape of a cannonball) was the moment he started his Spiritual Journey, one that would end up being a follower of Jesus Christ and starting the order of Ignatius – The Ignatians.
He had a Divine Intervention.
God intervened into his life, a life that was selfish and heading for disaster.
After praying about this I felt the Holy Spirit impress upon my heart that I was so capable. For many years now juggling efficiently so many balls in the air that I was in danger of becoming too capable. That I could have a tendency to do life in my own strength and power and not rely on God at all. God in His gracious Love for me decided to intervene. My Cannonball moment.
Had you ever had a cannonball moment, where your life was tossed upside down for a time or season? Where possibly God was trying to talk to you about something?
Has God divinely intervened in your life? To try and get your attention?
In the book of Revelation Jesus says to all of us,
Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.
Revelation 3:20 NRSV
Now God does not always send us a Storm to be able to listen to Him but have your spiritual ears and eyes open to see Him knocking at your door, for His invitation is to all.
Is there anyone in your life that needs encouragement, like the friend who had emailed me. Ring them, send them a message, tell them that God has not forgotten them and that He is totally aware of what they are going through. God is there for them! God is there for you! Just open the door and invite him in.
May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Every week groups of ladies meet together to chat about the things I raise in my weekly blog post and to chat about life in general. We call these ‘Heart Connect’ groups.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Where has God divinely intervened in your life?
What do you think God was saying to you?
Where can you be an encouragement to someone who is feeling a bit down currently? What could you do to brighten their day?

Your words helped me to realise that everything is not left to me. Our of nowhere I found myself unable to walk and in pain. Many of the things that I was doing for the Church I could do. I realised that God was telling me to let others help and that it was His work not mine. Thank you for your words of encouragement.

Thank you for this brave honest message. It really ministered to me, especially that God can use a cannonball moment to change our focus from our capability to depending on Him instead. I have had a rough 4 weeks recovering from shoulder surgery and have had to depend on my husband for everything, it has been a lesson in humility and patience. Your message was exactly what I needed to hear.
Praying for your healing and restoration, Rosemary. God bless.

I believe God sent me my moment when our 15 pregnant granddaughter came to live with us. She was hanging with kids using drugs and alcohol, fighting with her parent constantly and just in a very bad situation. Having her here has been a both a blessing and a challenge but through prayer and my husband’s help we are learning with her. God does listen and help
