Spending Time with Our Father
Willow, my 8-year-old granddaughter, asked her Mum, “When can I have my Daddy date?”
This is a date with her Dad. She comes from a family of six. Mum, Dad and 4 daughters. From a very young age, as the family grew in number, they decided the girls individually would have a play date with their Dad. The girls love them.
Melissa, her Mum, replied, “Well you need to decide first what you want to do?”
“Well, I’ve thought of 2 options. I could go to Mini Golf at Archie Brothers and then go to the Sushi train or if you don’t want to spend any money, we could watch a movie together and then make sushi at home.”
As you can tell money is tight in their budget at the moment and the little one has picked up on that.
When I heard this, I thought how generous a heart she had. She could have just asked for what she wanted but she thought of still enjoying the date with Dad but doing it a bit cheaper.
It made me reflect upon firstly – Do I put aside a Daddy Date with My Heavenly Father? A special extra time that I spend with Him. Have you ever thought of this?
And do I choose how I want it to go or do I give the option / the method, the date over to Him? For I know it is going to be Perfect anyway – I’m with the Almighty Father God. MY DAD.
We know often that people we spend time with can shape who we become, how we think. We see this very much in teenagers, but it occurs with whatever age we are. That’s why the bible tells us in Proverbs:
Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm.
Proverbs 13:20 NRSV
And in 1 Corinthians it says:
Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.’
1 Corinthians 15:33 NRSV
If our earthly relationships can change us how much more can a deep relationship with God transform our hearts?
We grow closer to Him. We become more like Him. And going on this Abba Father date spoils us like nothing else.
You choose where you want to have it. At the beach? In His house? At home? All of it is perfect!
May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Every week groups of ladies meet together to chat about the things I raise in my weekly blog post and to chat about life in general. We call these ‘Heart Connect’ groups.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
How much time do you put aside to spend with our Lord?
Do you direct exactly what you want the Lord to say and do? If so, why is that?
Are you able to sit back and allow the Lord to guide you?

Everyday, but how distractable I can be. My mind wanders off on a tangent and I have to bring it back, like an errant child who wanders away. It is so exhausting
No I don’t direct.
Yes! But I do argue the point, unfortunately

Yes I do spend time with our Lord God and I notice since I had the operation on my neck, I am slow… I also read and reflect the Sacred Scriptures as well as praying. This does not worry me but it does worry my family…Yet I see how unhappy their lives can be and disappointed of the outcomes of our current situations… They have not a personal profound relationship with our Great Loving Lord God. There are many who I see are lost sheep, even in my family and relatives and those who I meet. I will continue to pray for them and ask Saint Monica to pray for them…

I spent time with God every day the first thing in the day when I woke up . I greet Him , thank Him, then started reading the gospel of that day , then I pray to Him Glorifying Him for His Creation , thanking Him for so many things , then putting my requests under His feet . I ask Him to be with me in everything I do and use me to be His light on the Hill wherever I go .
