Go Straight to the Source
As I cleansed my skin before going to bed I glanced in the mirror to see how the skin texture was. I had been trying to eat healthier, wear sunscreen and nourish my face more with moisturizer. You cannot stop the ageing process, but you can nourish the skin from the base up as much as possible.
As I looked at myself, I was reminded of my sixteen-year-old grand-daughter’s remarks today. It made me chuckle out loud….
Charlotte was asked to clean the ottoman couch with a lint roller. Her Mum walked in to find her “lint-rolling” the cat……. She said she may as well go straight to the source!
That’s actually so true. To help in or with anything and anyone we need to go to the source of the problem, the issue. If I want good skin (should have started earlier) I need to nourish the source, the cells, and also the deep cleansing of the cells. The deep nutrition from my diet and exercise are to be provided to the cells to be as healthy as possible. The protection from the UV rays on the outside of our skin. All this, together with my genes, sums up how the skin will appear.
So too is the internal us.
I am not talking about the human body (but it applies to that as well.) I am talking about our spiritual being. The true me underneath everything.
I need to go to the source – the Lord Jesus Himself for my health. I need to make sure I have everything available for God to make me as healthy spiritually as possible.
He can heal.
He can restore.
As stated in Jeremiah
For I will restore health to you,
Jeremiah 30:17 NRSV
and your wounds I will heal,
says the Lord,
And in Exodus it says
… for I am the Lord who heals you.’
Exodus 15:26b NRSV
But first we need to make ourselves available. We need to have a willing surrendered spirit within us for the Lord to work.
In the book of Proverbs it says:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
Proverbs 3:5 NRSV
and do not rely on your own insight.
And in Romans it says
… present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Romans 12:1b NRSV
So, if I am going to look after my skin, my nutrition for my human body, why not do it all and start looking after the internal “me”? The part of me that really is the most important part. The eternal part. Not the part that one day will pass away.
The line that keeps coming back to me spoke by Charlotte was I need to go straight to the source.
God.
He IS the only one I truly need in my LIFE.
HE IS THE ONE THAT TRULY IS MY LIFE.
Thank you, Charlotte, for your wisdom. Thank you, Lord, for using Charlotte to speak into my life so I can be motivated to have you in my life more.
Now what are you going to do? Is God speaking to you too?
May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’
Love

Every week groups of ladies meet together to chat about the things I raise in my weekly blog post and to chat about life in general. We call these ‘Heart Connect’ groups.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
How often do you focus on your external health? Do you give the same time or maybe more time to your internal spiritual health?
What are the situations in your life where you don’t go straight to the source? Why is that the case? What is stopping you from turning to God for your strength?
What do you think God saying to you about your life today?

At 83 years of age, I am not to bothered by how I look, as long as I am clean neat and tidy. Skin and hair were never my first priority as money was tight and we were raising our five children and building our house.
The inner struggle was rather intense for a long time.
Now the source is my sanctuary and I thank you and Bruce for that. You came along when I needed the Holy Spirit had just turned me from wrong paths.
Not sure, but he is certainly prodding me and provoking me. I am a good sleeper and love my bed. This morning I woke up early at 4.30 am and God said “ Get up and do your devotions” The saints would have said “Yes
And got up immediately. Not me, I argued with God for about 15 minutes and then very reluctantly got up and did what I was told
I will learn obedience one day.

Thank you Valerie for sharing 🙏 and thanks to you Rosemary, Bruce and your whole team
I like Valerie haven’t always listened to God , my life has also been a roller coaster of Abuse from a young age, but my mother who is 91 and living now with dementia was always my strength and Saviour with a strong mindset in her faith.. she was raised in poverty and raised 7 daughters the Same in poverty but we always had a meal a clean house and a loving mother so grateful for that. I am now 61 years old have worked so hard all my life have lost 2 homes through divorces and have two beautiful but lost adult children.. I would be homeless if it wasn’t for my partner/ friend who helps me with my rent. For that I’m so grateful🙏 Life isn’t easy for me but I have found God, I have found Bruce and Rosmary and a beautiful church with lovely mothers for that I am so grateful. THANKYOU so much .
