The little one burst into tears as I stood and said goodbye.

Lately this is the occurrence whenever anyone leaves, even if just an acquaintance leaves the room.

So, a lot of reassuring and stating that the person will be back……

And then stating when you do return… “see I told you I was coming back.” A building up of soothing words, a developing trust in our word, being diligent in returning when you say you will and being consistent all helps for the child to learn and trust.

This is a stage of development that many children go through. A separation anxiety due to emotional attachment to the particular person.

Eventually, all at varying ages, the child learns that everything is ok. Mum, Dad, Grandma, friend is coming back.

This incidence the other day made me think, do I trust in God? Trust He will look after me? That God’s word is true and He will come back one day. That He will never leave me orphaned.

Do I rely on His reliability which is 100%?

Do I have a firm belief in His ability and in His truth? In His strength?

Or do I cry and weep when I think He is not returning? I get scared because I don’t see his hand working in my life?

Do I get worried because it looks like He’s not there? It looks like He has left the rooms of my life.

Do you trust in Him?

Read what the prophet Isaiah wrote in chapter 12 when he needed to state a truth about God.

“Behold, God is my salvation;
    I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for the Lord God is my strength and my song,
    and he has become my salvation.”

Isaiah 12:2

David wrote these two Psalms…

Our soul waits for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.

Psalm 33:20

When I am afraid,
    I put my trust in you.

Psalm 56:3

Sometimes our circumstances change and that’s what triggers the anxiety, the stress, the distrust.

But our God is consistent, reliable, He never changes. He is faithful so trust in Him no matter what!

He can!

So don’t get separation anxiety. God is with you! He told us so – even if it does not feel like it. God never fails us.

Trust in Him. Walk with Him.

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Love
