What is Your Band Aid Covering Up?

I cannot but start this blog with another beautiful, delightful story from Willow. Willow is my 4-year-old granddaughter for those of you who don’t know. She is the youngest of four girls but often seems to be more grown up and to say things that are above her years.

She had hurt herself at Kindy. She came home with a huge scratch that was bleeding all the way down her leg.  Supposedly she had jumped over this book with a metal spine down the middle and did not make it.

Her Mum, Melissa, put a band aid on it, more to protect it from dirt and sand from the sandpit. After a couple of days before her shower at night Melissa went to remove it.

Willow stopped her and leaned over and pulled it off herself.

Then triumphantly stated “I’m like a parent!”

Melissa asked her, “why?” Willow answered, “Because I removed my band aid without crying.”

So, is that what we do?

Remove band aids and tell the little ones it won’t hurt, or it will only for a while.

What about the band aids we put on ourselves? The ONES on OUR HEARTS. The things that cause us to weep in the privacy of our bedrooms. Where our heart is breaking?

To try and stop the bleeding, stop the hurting, stop the shame, stop the feeling of failure, we say “Out of sight out of mind.” Many of us carry the hurt on shelves in our lives. Bundled away, gathering dust but still having an effect on us and our future lives.

But we know the band aid does NOT work. The Only relief will come when we take ‘IT’ – whatever that ‘IT’ is to Our God, to Our Saviour, who can fix, who can heal and restore.

He ALONE has the healing power.

Think about LENT, a time to contemplate our lives in the light of Our God, and to be drawn more into Him and His Kingdom.

God wants us to take ‘IT’ to Him. These things, sticking points, that stop us from drawing closer to God are exactly what God wants us to bring to Him. And once we give ‘IT’ to God, and take off that band aid, then we will be drawn closer to Him.

Our God does not leave us there. He now draws us to Himself, to His Kingdom living.

This is described so well in Philippians 4:8 where we are called to think about these things, to meditate, contemplate, and fill your thoughts with…

“… whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].”

Phil 4:8 AMP

So what is “IT” that you need to bring to God this Lent?

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Love

Love your warmth and caring way of relating to us! Sweet woman of God that you are! Still need to receive the video of weight loss program😢. Only got one! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve had insomnia since 2009 and partly through my own stubbornness and pride I’m having to take a lot of medication to “sleep” which is unrefreshing and unnatural.
I’ve been prayed over so many times and still can’t shake the medication off.
My first husband of 40 years died of a heart attack in front of me in 2014 and the second became aggressive and threatening, resulting in my having to take out a Violence Restraining Order.
      I’m emotionally and mentally drained.
      Please pray for me, Anna

Thank you for all you, Bruce and the team do.
If you could tell Brice I also am not receiving the weight loss program. Only saw it once and accidentally deleted it before I could finish reading it.

    God bless.
