Every One has a Part

The new building’s roof was painted. The walls also. But the floor…… it needed pressure hose spraying to get it clean. Many hands got to work and after three long days the work was completed. I had gone along a few times to see what I could do. The pressure hose seemed to be too powerful in its vibrations for my damaged muscles (due to some ongoing past injuries.)

So, what could I do?

I made coffees. I got out the broom and swept the extra water down the drain as it built up in the room. It made me feel useful. I was participating as much as I could.

Later reflecting upon many letters we receive from people to the HEART Ministry or Bruce Downes Ministries, there are many who write in to say they cannot help, they cannot donate for they are sick, poor, unable to in their circumstances. Many who state they can only participate from a distance. Many of them say – But we are with you and we can Pray.

The scripture from 1 Corinthians came to mind

12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body….

14 Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot would say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear would say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many members, yet one body. 21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the members of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,…

1 Corinthinans 12:12-22 NRSV

We the people of God are all members of the ONE body. The ONE spirit. Just different parts to play. Different roles. Different gifts.

The prayers (even though we should all pray) have a special gift they give to the body.

The donators (though, even if a widow’s mite, we should all give) have a special gift they give to the body.

The doers (even though we should all do what we can) have a special gift they give to the body.

We are ALL ONE. Giving our gifts, our substance to OUR GOD for HIS GLORY.

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

What part do you have in the Body of Christ?

If you are not sure, can you think about ways that you can contribute to those around you? What do you bring?

Very well put Rosemary!!! It’s good to know we can all contribute in some way and benefit the Body of Christ! But it can be disappointing when you put some big effort to contribute towards encouraging others to join and it doesn’t succeed! Bruce is right by saying there are times we don’t know why things happen the way they do, on this side of Heaven! But we will one day! In Heaven! Then there are those times I would love to give more, but it could be circumstances, set backs, financial issues that prevent me…These are the times to pray to the Lord for His help and while I wait, do whatever I can to give, whether it’s my time, effort, more prayers, talking to others, scrounge
around the house for extra change….BUT NEVER GIVE UP!!! May the Lord bless you Rosemary and all in this special ministry for women!
