Welcoming is a Gift!

Some people just have a gift. A gift of welcoming, a gift of hospitality. They make you feel at home and it’s as if you have known them for a very long time.

That’s how it felt this weekend just gone. Both Bruce and I had never met this couple, who opened their “retreat house” up to us. We were spoilt by their company, their cooking, their home, their time. Their Ministry to others is very evident and genuine.

1 Peter 4: 8-9 came to mind.

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

1 Peter 4:8-9 NIV

This wonderful couple extended grace to us, with nothing too hard, their home and hearts open to give…..

And we received so much….

We received so much love from their extended hands……

Both Bruce and I felt so blessed in their generosity and wisdom that came from their lips, their lives shared, and our hearts were filled with calming love and peace. May they be blessed as described in Luke 14:13-14, for what they did for us, let alone what they do for many……and how we may never be able to repay them…..

But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Luke 14:13-14 NIV

This experience made me feel “looked after” and recharged both our batteries.

May God bless those who care for and work to refresh others.

When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Matt 25:39-40

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Do you need to recharge your battery?

Are you the one with the gift of hospitality? Where can you extend Christ’s love to others just by looking after them with lodging and a feast?

Oh how wonderful for you both, as you give so much of yourselves to everyone. It was your turn last weekend. May God Bless all four of you to be able to continue in the work He has for you, to share Him with others in different ways. 🙏🕊
