May I Use My Time Wisely

The alarm went off and I groaned. It’s not that time already. Peeling my eyes open and squinting at the time, I was hoping the clock was wrong. I laughed thinking about that thought. As if the clock could be wrong, probably more like ‘user error’ as my daughter states.

Time in life just keeps ticking on. I seem to be rushing from one event to the next.

I do remember now why I enjoyed school holidays so much. The tyranny of keeping to a time schedule was relaxed and sleep-ins were a pleasure. Relaxed meals at the dinner table accompanied with enjoyable conversation, with no time master sitting on your shoulder telling you the next thing on your list.

We all have those precious moments with family and friends that we don’t want to end. The times at Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving where we try and make time to thank God for the blessings of family and friends.

There was a time when we only saw some members of the family once a year at Christmas and I so enjoyed catching up with them. I do remember though getting frustrated once the meal was over, that everyone dispersed, some to the kitchen to clean dishes, some to the tv and often the children outside. The kitchen at my husband’s parents place (where we held the dinners or lunches) was so small that only a few people could be in there at once. So, I suggested to buy good quality paper plates and then we could just throw them in the bin. That way there would be minimal cleaning and more time around the dinner table.

As the years went on there were engagement celebrations, weddings, births of babies and even the celebration of people’s lives at their funerals. The celebration of baby milestones like walking and talking, the Birthday celebrations of loved ones all included in the get-togethers.

Time is so precious because it is limited. Spending whatever time we have with people is so important.

Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow.

Psalm 144:4

Remember what my span of life is;

For what vanity you have created all the sons of men!

Psalm 89:47

You see this so often in newspapers or online news articles, where young lives are lost in road accidents, in sicknesses, in tragedies. But some of us are vain enough to think that we are invincible, that nothing can stop us. Truth is we all have a limited time here on earth.

So let us LOVE while we can.

On the other side of the coin, we may have a limited time here, but we do have on offer an eternal home in heaven. The prize is already available to us. We all win if we take up the offer. But we can’t wait, there may be no more time left, the choice is ours now.

The life we live now is so much better if we take up the offer to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

To know of His Love for us and what He has done for us. To know now and into the future the eternal Life with Him offered.

So, as I reflect upon all of this, the alarm beeps again. I lean up and turn off the noise. I’m now wide awake and excited to use my time wisely. To use the day to love people, to love My God and see what the day may bring.

I lift up a quick prayer, “May I use my time wisely today Lord for you.”

Where do you need to reflect on your time, your opportunity that may come your way to love people?

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Love

I remember when I was younger and had a very busy and hectic working schedule…I was frustrated every morning because I could not endure the sound of the alarm clock…it just woke me up so loudly, so abruptly…so one day I decided it was enough. I said to the Holy Virgin Mary : I just don’t want to wake up this way anymore…would you be kind enough to wake me up from my sleep like you used to wake up your Son Jesus when He was living under your roof? and God be my witness, I never used an alarm clock again…very slowly but surely I always got up on time. Every night I would go to bed and tell Her at te end of my prayers: “ Mary, I need to wake up at six tomorrow morning, I leave it all to you.”And would fall asleep like a baby. And sure enough, around five fifty eight, I would wake up like a little flower that wanted to see the sun ! She never failed…I have always been on time, grace be to God!

I love that idea. Thank you for sharing it! Our Lady surely will wake me too to start the day. How much more inviting .

Time goes by fast and seems like the older I get the faster it goes. This message reminds me of Mary and Martha when Jesus came to their house. Mary took time to sit and listen and visit with Jesus and Martha was busy doing frivolous things. Unfortunately I can be a Martha a lot and therefore I miss the quality time.

Kathy, I so connect with the story of Mary and Martha which is my go to scripture passage when I need to still my mind. I picture myself as Mary sitting at Jesus’ feet patiently, eagerly waiting to hear His word.

Thank you Rosemary for bringing up this important topic of how we can spend our time wisely! I love spending time in my quietest room, the bedroom, sitting at my desk, praying my PERSONAL prayers, reading Scripture passages in the Bible, looking at spiritual messages, such as the Daily Devotionals, Heart Videos, Rosemary’s Blog. Reflecting and responding to them, as well as praying the Holy Rosary with both you and Bruce. But YES there are times when I may have a busy day and find it difficult to fit all I do on that day. And YES I have to admit that there are times when I am too lethargic, tired or too distracted only to regret some time after, that I am letting good opportunities slip by in spending quiet time with the Lord and building up my faith! As well as walking in God’s creation with my husband, while having a heart to heart conversation with him…. Or having a deep and meaningful discussion with my son. The internet, as I have discovered, can be very beneficial but can also prevent good quality time with our loved ones!…You have got me really thinking now Rosemary! To go and make time for the IMPORTANT relationships and things in life!!! May the Lord bless you Rosemary as go off to spend time wisely!!!
