Things not going to Plan

You organize, plan, account for time for everything in the day, at least I do, and especially when I have a day to myself. Ok, I will first sleep in. Yes, I heard that sigh from many of you jealous of me – I get it!

Then I’ll next get onto the washing that needs to be done. Then I’ll go to the room we will be using tonight to check that it had all been set up correctly.  From there I’ll go and have a breakfast coffee, then I’ll read and pray and write.

I have nothing else on my agenda until the evening for Bruce was busy in meetings all day.

It did not go quite as I had planned, but still a good day.

Firstly, the hotel we were staying at had no laundry. The gentleman I spoke to did not even know where he could direct me to go. So, the washing would have to be on another day. Ah well, not to bother.

I thought I’ll go have a coffee first then I’ll go check out the room. But the in-house restaurant was closed. (Had I slept in too much?)  I had to hunt to find somewhere to get a coffee. Finally, after finding one, I went outside and sat in the sun. No one else was around. I started to pray and sing softly to the Lord. The birds joined in; way more melodious than me but all for His Glory.

Ever done that? Just sang to the Lord for the Lord’s enjoyment and yours. I then read the scriptures of the day and started sharing my heart with my Saviour.

It felt so good. Just to have the time with no pressure on appointments etc to spend time with the Lord. Then I listened to some powerful Christian songs that helped me focus on God and give Him glory. It was a wonderful morning.

After a few hours I got up and after following directions given to me went to the meeting room and prepared it ready for the evening meeting.

While I put out the chairs, I started praying for all who might come.

The scripture that popped into my head was Proverbs 16:3:

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Proverbs 16:3

I started to reflect upon how in the past, I would be so upset if my day had not gone as I had planned it. In the past if I could not do the washing as planned, I would be very frustrated. If the coffee was not available at the café I had gone to, I would have been very annoyed.

God has worked more in my life, on my heart, so that I am more fluid, more available to my day being different because God has planned it differently for me. I am more open to listening for His direction, His plans for my life, even the plans for my day.

Are you able to listen to the Lord and change your plans for Him? Commit your job, your career, your circumstances to God and see what He plans for you. What plans eventuate?

That does not mean God does not want us to be organized, be planned but what if He disrupts our plans to follow His plan? Do we yell, huff and puff and blow the house down or do we commit this interruption to the Lord too?

My heart hopefully is more in tune with the Lord as I get older and wiser and more surrendered to Him. I actually often enjoy the disruptions and plans God has for me. More often than not I am surprised by what God does in and through my life. He brings me great joy.

Can I share some wisdom with you all? Let God in more, Let Him disrupt your life and plans for the day and see where He leads you and who He leads you too. He only wants good for you. Trust Him, you might be surprised with the joy He brings you in His plans for you.

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Do you get frustrated when your day doesn’t go to plan?

When your day is disrupted have you been able to ask God what He would have for you that day? If not, what do you need to do to allow God in?

Thank you Rosemary for sharing with us concerning days that don’t go as planned. There are days when I am glad that my day did not go as planned and days where I pray and ask the Lord why. Sometimes the response comes surprisingly and unexpectedly quick and sometimes it may take years! In those times that takes years, I have looked back from the present into my past and more times than not, the Lord has revealed to me why. And yet there are times when I find no answer. In recent years, after hearing the Heart messages and the Daily Devotionals, I have become more patient in my circumstances, as I repeat what I’ve heard, that the answer will be revealed to me not this side of Heaven. So I’ll need to trust in the Lord who has the BIG PICTURE of all of our lives and HAS A PLAN- Jeremiah 29 : 11 – 13 that will give me HOPE and a FUTURE. But there are those moments where there is frustration, confusion and disappointments… In those moments pouring my heart out to our Loving God, who knows ALL about me, what is happening and why gives me comfort, consolation and hope to keep going. Especially when I open the Sacred Scriptures and discover the Word is actually communicating with me; relating to how I feel and the circumstances I find myself in. This is one powerful way the Lord is listening to me and speaks to my heart, encouraging me and lovingly caring for me!!!… Then there are the Lord’s favours He bestows on us and on me in such unexpected ways!!! Ways that may take me in a different direction that I didn’t know about at all, meeting and conversing with unknown individuals that have been very beneficial in Church and elsewhere, as well as the conversations I hear from those who I do know, that are indirectly giving me solutions to problems they have no idea that they are, and at the time I may not know either!!!… TRUSTING in our Loving God even when I see no way out of a situation, when I am afraid of the possibilities ( that most of the time do not eventuate! ), when at times the thoughts turn negative is so very important for me!!! GIVING THANKS to our God for all He does and for all He gives, for all He has created is so very, very important and let me not forget the immense LOVE He has for us all!!!
May the Lord be with you Rosemary and bless you with His Loving Presence and Bruce, along with all who work for the Lord in the ministries!!! I would also like to let you know that I really love your Blogs Rosemary!!!
    In Christ’s Love
