I Know I Need Jesus

Ever written down stuff you have done in one day. You’ve felt like it is very mundane, not out of the ordinary at all. Like caring for the needs of loved ones, doing chores around the house, going to the shops for groceries, doing washing, attending meetings, writing, reading……. Nothing glamorous.

Sometimes a “normal” every day can leave you wondering if what you are doing even matters to God.

What if I turn my mundane moments into worship and sacrifice to Him?

As suggested in Colossians 3:17:

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Colossians 3:17

I was babysitting five of the grandchildren and these thoughts started swirling around in my mind, as I crossed the road heading for the shops with the five in tow, all holding hands. I watched them all walking, jumping, skipping down the aisle with not a care in the world. (I had two 5-year-olds, one 6-year-old and two 8-year-olds.)

As they headed down to the deli to buy some sliced meats and cheeses to put into our sandwiches for lunch, I had to smile as I reminded them to watch where they were going. Slowly the trolley had more items added to it – fresh donuts, milk, new colouring-in books…..

They all were full of so much energy and excitement for what the day might bring. It made me think – do I have that same expectation for the day…..?????

When we went through the self-serve cash register at the front of the store to complete our purchases, all five had to ‘swipe’ an item. It took forever, or so it felt, but they were in no hurry. Thank goodness God had granted me patience over the years.

Later at home as I started to wash the dishes after lunch, I looked over at each of them drawing and colouring-in and prayed a silent prayer over each of them.

Especially in this Christmas season of GIVING – GOD gave us The Christ Child, His Only Son. We can focus on God’s goodness and the gifts He has given to us. We can pray for our child or grandchildren’s future. We can look for the good in the mundane things of life. We can celebrate the not so glamorous chores of life.

The headache hit me late in the afternoon. I remembered that I had not slept much or well last night and this was the result. Ah well not long before Dad will be home and I can pass the reigns back to him. Then I will drive the couple of other grandchildren to their house and I can put my feet up.

It was not meant to be—- well in the timing when I thought it would be.

As I was heading out to pack the car full of my bags and some of the grandchildren’s bags, I looked at my daughter’s car with a groan. We had swapped cars earlier in the morning replacing my smaller one with one that would fit the five in. The car had a FLAT tyre. An hour later after my son came home and he changed the tyre for me I headed in the direction of my daughter’s house to drop off the last of the grandchildren.

My head was throbbing by now and my spirit definitely did not want to give thanks to God for everything as the scripture encourages us to.

Did Mary give thanks to God for being 9 months pregnant travelling on a donkey’s back?

Travelling for four eight-hour days from Nazareth to Bethlehem?

I remember complaining when Bruce went over a speedbump and we travelled for half an hour going to the hospital before Emma’s birth.

Did Mary give thanks to God for finding a manger for her to give birth in?

Did Joseph give thanks to God for having no room in the inn for his son and his wife, but still providing for them?

Well, they are holier people than me, is my excuse, instead of seeing them as role models to what living fully, loving fully, walking fully for and with God is.

I am not that perfect Christian. I am the one that knows I need just Jesus.

In a few days Jesus, Our Saviour, is born for us. Can I show this Jesus’ love to all I meet, be this Jesus to who I meet? Can I follow Jesus even in the mundane of life?

I pray the Peace and JOY of Christmas be upon all of you and your loved ones and may we glorify Jesus in our lives more.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

All my Love,  Rosemary xx

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Every week groups of ladies meet together to chat about the things I raise in my weekly blog post and to chat about life in general. We call these ‘Heart Connect’ groups. If you would like more information please click HERE.

Thank you Rosemary for sharing with us your day with your grandchildren while having a throbbing headache and how you were still able to reflect upon our Lord!!! I am sure we all have challenging days even if they appear to be so mundane Rosemary!!! And I have to remind myself that if I continue in my thoughts to complain, the day doesn’t get any easier! And that I may displease the Lord if my complaints fill up my day! There are times however when I do pour out my heart to God and ask for His help in certain circumstances that are overwhelming me. It doesn’t take long however for me to feel better, that our Lord listens, loves me and cares for me. And in His mysterious ways helps me, strengthens me, encourages me. Especially when I pick up the Bible and see a Scripture passage that somehow miraculously relates to me and my circumstance!
I would like to thank you Rosemary, Bruce and all who work for the Lord in the ministries, for the encouragement, correction, support you give to us…to me!!! May the Lord continue to bless and inspire you through your messages, blogs and pod- casts!!! May the Lord bring you Rosemary, Bruce and your family and loved ones, as well as all who work in the ministries, their families and loved ones, Love, Peace and Joy in this Holy Season of our Lord Jesus’ Coming at Christmas!!! May you all feel His Loving Presence with you all!!!
    In Christ’s Love
