Living in the Light

As I was getting ready to go to work today, I looked in the mirror at my face. I sighed. Yes, the bags underneath my eyes told everyone how tired I felt.  How tired I was. The bags could have fitted two sets of luggage in them!

My mind went to how was I going to cover that up? What was the secret about getting rid of dark circles? Putting cold teabags on them? Covering them up with lighter foundation? The things we do to pretend to everyone that meets us that we are all ok. That there are no problems. No issues. No sleepless nights.

Ok that is us with people, what about with Our God? Do we try to cover up our lives? How we truly are? How we are going?

God already knows but He delights in us sharing with Him. Sharing with Him the deepest, darkest secrets, challenges, problems of our lives.

In Psalm 139 we are challenged by the words of David that God knows us completely.

O Lord, you have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
    you discern my thoughts from far away.
You search out my path and my lying down,
    and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
    O Lord, you know it completely.
You hem me in, behind and before,
    and lay your hand upon me.

Psalm 139:1-5 NRSV

In verse 5 the words say how this knowledge is so wonderful, ‘For You, Oh God lay your hand upon me. You hem me in (guard, protect me) where I am.

When we feel like things are dark (and not just the bags under the eyes), as stated in verses 11-12, even this to God is light.

If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me,
    and the light around me become night’,
even the darkness is not dark to you;
    the night is as bright as the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.

Psalm 139:11-12 NRSV

So let us refocus our vision, our thoughts, our lives, and acknowledge that in God nothing is dark. He can help us. He can restore to us our sleep. Take away our worries (and our bags.)

Are you being honest with Him? Acknowledge your thoughts to Him, who can solve everything. He can bring us the peace we need.

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

    Psalm 139 is beautiful and what I needed to be reminded of. I will pray for more peaceful rest. Time to focus more fully on the true meaning of Advent and the birth of Jesus!

      This was spot on for what I needed today. God has gotten an earful about two different situations in my life. Thank you, God, for listening!

      Oh God, you who know me to my heights, depths and widths, you who created me, who know my length and breadth. Where can I go to hide from you, there is nowhere I could run to or hide in that you would not find me. Chase me Lord rescue me from that which would tear me from you. Shine a light on all the hidden places within me which I cannot see. I love you and I thank you
      Amen

    Thankyou Rosemary, just what l needed.
    Was running late for a meeting & apart from it being extremely hot, decided to go without makeup. It’s what’s in the heart that matters & your outlook on life. Not what is on your face. Psalm 139 is so meaningful.
