The Lord Protects

I was driving to a meeting but popped into the shops to buy milk for tea and coffee. As I was leaving the car park a dad who was walking with his young daughter called out to her. I had already slowed down in my car because the girl was close to the edge of the road and was not looking. All of a sudden, the father’s arm had grabbed his daughter by the forearm and yanked her to the safety of his arms. I smiled and carefully continued to navigate the car park.

The action of the Father made me think about Our Heavenly Father’s actions. How He steps in often and protects His children from harm. He guides, instructs, directs and loves us completely. Sometimes when we are in danger, God yanks us off of our feet and sets us on the right path.

The Lord will keep you from all evil;
    he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
    your going out and your coming in
    from this time on and for evermore.

Psalm 121:7-8 NRSV

The biggest harm to us does not come from things in this world but in the spiritual forces of evil that Jesus has overcome.

For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12 NRSV

Praise the Lord that He looks after us!

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Every week groups of ladies meet together to chat about the things I raise in my weekly blog post and to chat about life in general. We call these ‘Heart Connect’ groups.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Have you felt God’s protection in your life? What did it feel like?

Can you describe the times where God has directed you and led you down a different path because where you were originally heading was not good for you?

    I feel the Lord has His hand guiding my family and our lives at the moment just because the last 4 years have been and continues to be so rocky living with our youngest child (now age 20) during the time he took drugs, lived in social housing, has dramatic mood swings, can’t seem to hold down a job and is so full of anger and resentment. Despite this, we are still in touch he is in a shared house and he has someone working alongside him to help him …I handed him over to the Lord when the troubles began and if the Lord doesn’t have a plan, what is all this for and why would it happen to us, an ordinary Catholic family? – the Lord is my only hope.

    Yes the Lord is looking after you all! And especially your son. The enemy attacks anyone who chooses the Lord , the ordinary Catholic family’ as you state. God in all things is our only hope- hold on tight to Him. I will pray for protection for you all. Love Rosemary
