God’s Perfect Timing
There is an American comedian I like that recently shared that he was brought up as a Catholic. He respected this upbringing but did not really connect with it and so did not connect with God.
One Good Friday he decided to go to the pictures to see the Passion of Christ. His father was delighted and even told him so.
He said he went by himself and with a bucket of popcorn was going to enjoy watching the 2-hour long movie. Nothing else was happening that day because so many places were closed.
He was so confronted by the movie that He started deliberately checking out God more.
He never stopped believing in God, but God had not been part of his life for a long time. He even went to see the actor Jim Caviezel who played Christ.
He stated that this movie was what restarted him on his relationship with God.
I was struck by the comedian’s honesty and that God had reached him even when he was quite happy and was not searching for God at the time.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
Isaiah 55:8-9 NRSV
nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
God is forever looking out for us. Caring for us, protecting us but always ready to get our attention. So, it brings to my mind as a parent and grandparent, to ask God to reach your loved ones in His time and using the right conditions.
God can reach them way better than all our pleadings, all our trying to get them to church, to have them “see” the goodness and need of God. So be the best you can be then trust God, pray and step out of the way.
May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Who are the people in your life that you would love God to get their attention?
What can you do to give space to others and allow God to do things in His perfect timing in their life?
