Your Little Matters

Chores never ending! Washing is just continuous at the moment due to many visitors but at least I have clothes and bedding to wash. Not like so many. And the numbers of people in dire straits seems to be growing.

Those in war zones, those in natural disasters with floods, fires, earthquakes, famine appearing to grow in number every season.

My heart and limited funds go out to many in need.

But I often feel my contribution is so little.

What can I really do?

Well little by little grows and soon this little we have all given adds up to a lot.

In the same way we can all give a little of Jesus to everyone. Sharing about Him, Being His hands and feet. Extending love to others knowing this love first came from Him.

Scripture frequently emphasizes that God does not require massive resources to work miracles; He asks you to be faithful with the little you already have. Several key passages highlight this principle of using what is in your hands…

When Moses states ‘suppose they don’t believe me or listen to me’, God showed him what He could do with a simple staff in Moses’ hand.

Then Moses answered, ‘But suppose they do not believe me or listen to me, but say, “The Lord did not appear to you.”’ The Lord said to him, ‘What is that in your hand?’ He said, ‘A staff.’ And he said, ‘Throw it on the ground.’ So he threw the staff on the ground, and it became a snake; and Moses drew back from it. Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Reach out your hand, and seize it by the tail’—so he reached out his hand and grasped it, and it became a staff in his hand—

Exodus 4:1-4 NRSV

God used Elisha, the prophet, to show the widow how God can use anything little for his purposes. The desperate widow cried to the prophet Elisha. He asked what she had in her house. She replied, “Nothing there at all, except a flask of olive oil.” Elisha told her to use that little bit to pour into borrowed jars, and God multiplied it to save her family.

Elisha said to her, ‘What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?’ She answered, ‘Your servant has nothing in the house, except a jar of oil.’ He said, ‘Go outside, borrow vessels from all your neighbours, empty vessels and not just a few. Then go in, and shut the door behind you and your children, and start pouring into all these vessels; when each is full, set it aside.’ So she left him and shut the door behind her and her children; they kept bringing vessels to her, and she kept pouring. When the vessels were full, she said to her son, ‘Bring me another vessel.’ But he said to her, ‘There are no more.’ Then the oil stopped flowing. She came and told the man of God, and he said, ‘Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your children can live on the rest.’

2 Kings 4:2-7 NRSV

What little do you have that God can use? For you and for others?

It may not appear much in your hands but in the hands of God can do wonders.

Give what you have and let God use it, mold it, grow and develop it for his purposes and His glory.

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’
