Growing my Inner Self

There are so many different diets out there in “diet land.” Some contradict others. Some are extreme, others fit into your normal lifestyle. I’ve tried a few over the years when I wanted to fit into a certain dress for a special occasion. Nothing drastic. Mainly watching what I eat and when. All healthy nutritious foods.

Now as I am getting older, I want to provide my body with the vitamins that are necessary in my diet. The extra calcium for my bones, the vitamin D for my muscles and the foods that are anti-inflammatory to reduce the Arthritis as much as possible. Then of course the normal Vitamin A, B’s, C, and E and the essential minerals like magnesium. Most of these can be found in good wholesome fruit and vegetables.

I also need a good balance of protein (meat, fish, nuts) and complex carbohydrates while minimizing sugars.

You really need to do a little bit of research for your age and type of body metabolism you have. Also, the problem area(s) you want to target. For example, your increasing girth around your middle that just is so hard to reduce.

Ok that is only part of me – the physical side. On top of this you need to exercise. Is it cardio I need? Or weights? Or just walking? Again, more research is needed.

And so, it is the same for knowing your inner self. (And I’m not talking about the inner organs.) But the inner spiritual and mental you. The part that really is the most important and these two sides of us, the spiritual and the mental, interplay with each other so much.

We need to do some research here. Firstly, to know God and so naturally a knowing of oneself will follow. For the Creator knows His Creation – us.

Do you truly know yourself? Your strengths and weaknesses?

When I am close to God and working on my relationship with Him, my mental state is usually in a good place too.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

And found in Proverbs…

As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

Proverbs 23:7

Your inner thoughts and motivations define your character and direct your life’s path. This principle highlights that your mindset often shapes your reality, influencing your actions, emotions and ultimate destiny.

So, if my life trusts in the Sovereignty of God – He reigns on the throne  and I believe this with all my Heart and my prayer is that His Kingdom will come upon this earth— then I can live with complete confidence that my earthly reality of life here is being looked after by my God. This mindset then influences me to live in peace and joy and contentment for my ultimate destiny is one day in Heaven with the Lord.

That does not mean that I just sit on my bottom and watch what God does. No, it means I join with God by living in His ways and so bring His Kingdom to this earthly life.

What do you need to work on? All three like me? Physical, spiritual and mental?

It’s a lifetime of research and trying and  then going back to God’s drawing board when I get it wrong.

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

Every week groups of ladies meet together to chat about the things I raise in my weekly blog post and to chat about life in general. We call these ‘Heart Connect’ groups.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Are there areas of your life that you need to work on? Do they have a physical aspect or spiritual or mental?

What kind of a plan do you put in place to focus on that area of your life?

Is God prompting you in a certain way to rely on Him for direction?

    Rosemary,
I am like you. I need physical, spiritual and mental help. I have been on a weight loss journey since August, and I am down 16 lbs. Tonight was a right off, though. I was at a CWL meeting, and they had doughnuts. I had 2. The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak.

We went to Mas before our meeting. I am always looking for that special feeling or connection with God. I pray every morning, but I get so distracted at times. I sing in the church choir, and some days I can feel the spirit in my soul. I would love to feel that spirit when I pray.

I am usually an optimist. I try to stay positive, and most of the time I am. I am mostly content with my life at 76 years young. I am active with St Vincent de Paul. We have a thrift store in town, and I get to help our neighbours in need.

I was a widow at 26 years old with a 3-year-old, and I was 7 months pregnant. Life was hard then, but in my senior years, I have been blessed with 3 wonderful sons, and they are very good to me. God has always been a part of my life. He has taken very good care of my family and me. My sons are successful and their wives are a blessing to me. My 7 grandchildren give me so much joy. They range from 27 years old to a 1-year-old. They are a blessing.

I try not to complain too much because there are a lot of people around me who do like to complain.

You are a faith-filled lady, and I admire that you can feel so deeply. I don’t think I have felt that deeply since my husband died 50 years ago. He was the love of my life.

I think tonight, I just needed to write these things to you.

    God Bless you Rosemary.
