The Holy Spirit Champions Us

It is nearing the end of year where schools and students start selecting who will be the school leaders and school representatives for the following year. I have a grandson and a granddaughter going into their final years of school and they have nominated themselves for a leadership role. They both must write a speech that only goes for 3 minutes, presenting why they should be chosen. One must give it live to the school while the other must film it (on a phone) and present it first to the teachers that vote, and the students also can nominate 3 names to put forward.

A bit nerve-wracking for them. Well one of them mainly.

The speeches were written and rewritten for they were too long and did not cover enough areas…….and so forth.

As a practice, I got to listen to one of the speeches. I was pleasantly surprised how articulate, caring and compelling the speech was. Way more than I could present at that age. I know they had written it many times and practiced saying it and filming it many times, but it still was very impressive.

It reminded me in scripture where in John’s Gospel Jesus is telling us, His followers, that

… the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.

John 14:26 NRSV

It reminded me that we have been given a champion to help us in our lives. But to write a speech? To try and get voted as a leader? Why not?

Jesus was the greatest leader that we should follow. He knew how to capture an audience. How to teach them. How to explain it in a way that we would understand what   He was saying or trying to convey.

The Holy Spirit, of course, helps us in our spiritual life but He also helps us in our daily human life. Jesus was fully human and fully divine and understands what humanity goes through. He understands what we have to put up with and how we live upon this Earth.

He helped us himself to live here on earth while he was with us, then He sends us the Holy Spirit as helper and also reminds us that He IS still with us now. Guiding us, sharing with us His wisdom. Helping us to live a certain way – the Christian way.

Have you asked Him to help you in your circumstances? Your situation right now?  Maybe you are not writing a speech. Maybe you’re just trying to work out what to say to your mother? Your sister? Your work colleague.  So, have you asked HIM for help?

If not, why not?

May these jottings from my journal inspire you to believe in and fall in love with Christ- the hope of the world, as stated in Jeremiah 17:7, ‘Blessed is the man who believes and trusts in and relies on the Lord and whose hope and confident expectation is the Lord!’

It was timely that I read your jottings, Rosemary. I realised I have a small issue at work that I hadn’t asked God’s help with. Now I’ve asked for His help and am patiently waiting. God always answers prayers with far more abundance than I ask, so I’m preparing to be amazed.

    God is good!
