We All Have Something to Contribute
We can’t do everything, so what can we do? A young single mother struggles to put food on the table. Out of care for her and her family it is noticed by others and so a sharing of food from their own home-grown garden occurs. Many of the men get together every Saturday morning and tinker with their cars. One of them instead of trading in his car for a new one gives it to someone in need and then teaches them the basics to care for the car. Some university students and retired teachers give of their time to teach some high schoolers maths, physics, chemistry, English – whatever…
Giving My Day to God
I am reading a book called Immigrant Saint: The Life of Mother Cabrini. Born Francesca Cabrini in Italy, she founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She was the first US citizen to be canonized as a saint. The heart of this woman was simply amazing. From a very young age, even though quite sickly, she wanted to be a Missionary. Her Uncle inspired her with his stories of China and the people there who did not know God. She fell in love with Jesus and everything was done for Him. When there were many setbacks of even joining a nunnery, rejected by many due to her…
His Love is Forever
I have just come back from a beautiful celebration of a friend’s Mum’s life. The family were naturally sad but also celebrating the joy of her life and the legacy of what she left behind. Full life for her is just beginning with the eternal life with Jesus Christ in heaven. One we all desire to attain. Between my tears at the Church and the prayers on my lips I felt a comfort that the Lord watches over the whole span of our lives. Whatever unfolds in the future He never leaves us. If we trust in Him and trust to Him our plans, our dreams, our future we know…
Are You Reliable?
Does it not annoy you when you have made plans and they don’t work out? Now I’m not talking about when circumstances change, or someone gets sick and appointments need to be cancelled or moved. I’m talking about when people are continually unreliable, the same people unreliable, every time you book them into your diary week to care for someone, and it happens that they cancel on you. I know they may not mean to but sometimes it’s better for everyone if you or they state “in this season that you are in you cannot babysit or care for my family members.” Because the repercussions are so often that I…
Acknowledging God
My grandchildren when they send me any text messages, they often have emojis in their content. Some I recognize, others I have to ask what they mean. Back in the early church days when a Christian wanted to talk to another Christian secretly (for fear of to being killed or arrested) but also was unsure if they were actually talking to another Christian, they would start drawing part of the fish picture. If the other person completed the drawing – they were safe. Or carefully they made the sign of the cross to see if someone would reply with the sign of the cross. The sign of the cross was used by…
