• Showing Grace to Others

A few of my daughters are very good cooks. They did not learn it from me. I can cook to feed people and keep them alive but not like the meals these daughters make. I’m not too bad at deserts and cakes but only average in making those too. It so happened that they married men who were good cooks also. I have noticed over the years that they teach their children (my grandchildren) how to cook different dishes depending upon their abilities which is dependent upon their age and maturity. Aubrey, from the age of 8, and Willow, from the age of 5, have made some of the following…

  • God’s Perfect Timing

There is an American comedian I like that recently shared that he was brought up as a Catholic. He respected this upbringing but did not really connect with it and so did not connect with God. One Good Friday he decided to go to the pictures to see the Passion of Christ. His father was delighted and even told him so. He said he went by himself and with a bucket of popcorn was going to enjoy watching the 2-hour long movie. Nothing else was happening that day because so many places were closed. He was so confronted by the movie that He started deliberately checking out God more. He…

  • Finding it Hard to Wait

Oh, I had such a frustrating day. I had made an important phone call first thing in the morning, and the conversation ended that someone would ring me that day with the solution. So, all day I waited for that phone call. Every time the phone would ring or send me a message I was onto it because it could be the one I was waiting for. As I was doing housework, the phone came with me. Out to empty the bins the phone came along for the ride. This phone call was very important. When members of my family would ring me about something or just to ask how…

  • A Heart for Others

I have beautiful granddaughters – all of them. Each have their own particular gifts and abilities, but one is particularly beautiful with a quality of sensitivity. She is aware of what is going on in the dynamics of a group together. I watch her give comfort to one who is feeling low. To another how she includes them in a boardgame or another activity that the rest of the grandchildren are doing. She is the one that offers up the last piece of cake, offers up her time to help others, such an example to all that she meets. This is described so well in 1 Peter: Finally, all of…

  • Trust in Him

I arrived at my desk for the beginning of the work week. There is a sheet of paper on it. As I sat down on my chair I could see the beautiful handwriting on it. Getting out my glasses I read a letter from my granddaughter, Willow, who is 7. Dear Grammie, Our class is learning about being safe and how we can help ourselves stay safe by talking to people we trust. You are a person on my trusted network. I ask that you will: Kind regards, Willow. After I finished reading it, I thought I needed to reply to her and I also thought about who is in…
